Discover the Serenity of Lake Muhazi

Lake Muhazi is a long, shallow lake stretching east to west through Eastern Rwanda, with its western end marking the border with Kigali and the Northern Province. Formed as a flooded valley, it features several offshoots where tributaries once flowed. A concrete dam built in 1999 replaced the original earth dam that had existed for generations. The lake drains into the Nyabugogo River, which flows toward Kigali and joins the Nyabarongo River, a source of the upper Nile.
